Hey CAGGERS!!
It’s like 2 AM in the morning and I decided to finally do a new blog post. I know it’s been a while but to be honest with you I’m in a semi-crisis mode. Though I rarely admit it in public I’m turning 30 in a few months and I’ve experienced slight stints of depression from time to time because of it (hence my lack of blogging).
As a woman, there are so many pressures to be the sh!t professionally while birthing ‘dem babies’ (in my Mariah Carey) by age 30. Oftentimes I feel like I’m moving at a snail’s pace in those respects while aging at the speed of light! (The 10 weddings I’ve had to attend this year alone ARE NOT HELPING!!…SHEESH!) In addition, everything around me seems to keep breaking! My TV broke, I broke my laptop (AGAIN!), my dating/social life is on life support, and yesterday my trashberry (phone) broke and I almost lost it! However, yesterday I received the sweetest message from a facebook friend (with a string of comments from nosey friends attempting a VERY public intervention) that made me realize that instead of complaining to myself and viewing the glass of life as half empty, I need to view life like a full glass of water! (Wait…did that even make sense?…lol) You get my drift.
While I would love to hob knob with Michael Korrs and Heidi Klum as a contestant on Project Runway (I don’t see it for Nina Garcia!…lol…sike…love you girl!), I recognize that I have to start somewhere. Thankfully I am laying an awesome foundation for my ‘dream future’ now. AND Perhaps I should look at the things that are ‘broken’ in my life as new oppurtunities!! Check out my new perspective on life (along with some DIY extras) when you read the rest of this post!….
Honestly, TV is a distraction away from me doing important things like..hmm…blogging?!
In addition, Laptops are things of the past! In fact I’m doing this very post on my iPad using a fancy HP wireless keyboard that just happens to be available at Walmart for only $36! BOOYOW! (Thanks K Hobbs!! It works great!) More importantly, I just preordered the iPhone 5 and plan to take over the world with it!! HOPEFULLY as me and my fancy iPhone travel the world I will find a hot British/Italian/French/Spanish guy (because I no longer see it for pretentious egotistic entitled American men) to run off in the sunset with me! (Too much?…lol) I also do have a lot of AMAZING things going on right now for which I should be proud.
I have been doing a lot of freelance makeup/photoshoot work regularly that have allowed me to explore my creativity to ridiculous levels. I’m back in school for Fashion Design as many of you already know, I’m (slowly) working on a fashion line with my AMAZING tailor/friend, and I’ll be in Cabo Mexico in a few weeks getting MY LIFE with a vacation wardrobe designed and/or made by ME!!! YAAAY!! I will definitely be sharing pics and some Do-It-Yourself (DIY) Tutorials where I can. I’m going to end this post with a few pics of things I’ve made lately (with links to tutorials) encouraging YOU, yes YOU!, to ‘Start Somewhere”. A lot of people have been asking me for makeup tips and to make them clothes but I PROMISE you can do anything I do because I’m not in the business of doing things that make my life difficult.
As always, questions and comments are ALWAYS welcome and I want to thank you thank you thank you for all your continued support!! SMOOCHES!!
DIY OBI Belt
This is a super easy DIY project by my girl Mimi G. Style for beginner sewers. It took me less than a hour and this is one of the first sewing projects I’ve ever completed SUCCESSFULLY…lol All you’ll need is about a 1/2 yard of fabric (if that) and a basic sewing Machine. I purchased some pleather from Joann’s for about $5 with a coupon of course.
Check out here video tutorial here and definitely visit her blog!
DIY Ruffle Top
I wore this top to the Made in America music festival in Philadelphia (Philly, Philly!!!) and I literally made this entire outfit the morning of the festival. I got sooooo many compliments on the top, partially because it was extra festive, but it’s also very cute and comfy. I plan on making a few of these tops using other materials for the fall and pairing them with blazers and cardigans. This is another tutorial from Mimi G and perfect for beginners. Check out link to tutorial here.
Contour For Less!
Lately I’ve been posting a lot of CRAZY looking pics on instagram and the following picture gained a lot of attention and comments on instragram…lol I mean understandbly so! I look nuts!
Anywho, I’m not going to get too deep into what I did to execute this look because I’m reserving that discussion for another post. However, I will at least post what you need to accomplish this look. (SEE! I can compromise
The KEY to this look is concealer! Without it it would not be possible. I recommend bhcosmetics 10 Color Concealer Palette and right now it’s on sale for only $9!! In fact let me hop on that sale before you guys buy it all up! lol I also recommend a good blending brush, flat foundation brush, and flat liner brush all of which you can get from bhcosmetics for less than $15! Of course you will need a few other things but I’m sure you have those in your collection already. Full Tutorial Coming Soon!
